INTRODUCTION
Why the need for a secured parking area in Liège?
We see it on a daily basis. Freight transported on our roads by hauliers is targeted by increasingly organised and increasingly determined thieves. At the same time, truck drivers are required to comply with ever stricter legislation concerning rest periods. Rest periods are prime times for organised gangs.
Stopping at a secured site is the only way of avoiding any trouble.
Our secured truck parking area is located right at the heart of Wallonia’s largest interchange in Liège. On the E42 out of Mons or Paris, a distance of 1 km from the E40, i.e. the main road between Brussels and Germany, a distance of 2 km from the E25 out of Luxembourg, a distance of 10 km from the A13 out of Antwerp and 12 km from the motorway out of Maastricht. In short, you have to pass through it to get to and from Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France and the UK.
Liège is also a region which has seen massive logistical development, primarily on account of Bierset Airport, our neighbour, Europe’s 8th largest airport in terms of the tonnage transported, its nearby high-speed railway station and its inland port, which is Europe’s 2nd largest, as well as on account of specialist labour.
All of these reasons meant that it was necessary to set up a secured truck parking area in Liège.
