SETPOS - TRUCKINFORM
Setpos
Secure European Truck Parking Operational Services (SETPOS) is a pilot project launched by the European Commission – Directorate General for Energy and Transport (DG TREN). SETPOS responds to growing concern over attacks on trucks and their cargoes as well as the lack of appropriate facilities for truck drivers.
SETPOS therefore recognises that the establishment of secured truck parking areas and associated services has become extremely important in order to help cut crime and improve conditions for truck drivers..
The Setpos Objectives:
OBJECTIVE 1
Formulate a common standard for secured truck parking.
OBJECTIF 2
Construct a number of secured parking areas in trans-border regions to demonstrate this standard.
OBJECTIF 3
Establish information, guidance and an ICT reservation platform for all types of truck parking.
Truckinform
Truckinform is a platform comprising 3 services:
Service 1: the European truck parking database – currently with approximately 2,500 descriptions of truck parking areas in 40 countries.
Service 2: dynamic search for parking area availability along European motorways – the European parking area search assistance base.
Service 3: a reservation service – to make it possible to pre-book a parking area.
Service 1, the on-line information database for truck parking on European motorways, is currently open to the public and is constantly being improved. Make a contribution to these improvements!
Truckinform is a site set up by Move & Park SAS, in the framework of the SETPOS project, and is co-funded by the European Commission’s DG TREN (Directorate General for Energy and Transport).

However, the role of Truckinform is not just to provide information about secured truck parking areas: In fact, Truckinform provides information about practically every truck parking area in Europe.
Service 2, dynamic parking availability search and assistance, is coming soon. Again, Truckinform will rely on co-operation from Truck stop and motorway operators to give drivers the necessary information.
Service 3, parking area reservation, will also be available at the end of 2008.
In short, these three new services are a powerful tool in enabling the European haulage industry to become more reliable, more efficient and, by avoiding detours, more sustainable.
HOW THE THREE SERVICES LOOK
With the implementation of these three services:
- Owners of truck parking areas can increase the use of their parking areas and therefore improve their return.
- drivers have a tool enabling them to organise their rest time in the framework of regulations on working hours.
- dispatchers can plan journeys more accurately and easily.
- public authorities and road network operators have a more transparent picture of the traffic and parking situation.
- the interaction between the various transport services (road, rail and sea) is improved.
- the environment is less subject to pollution due to searching for parking areas.
- road transport in general becomes safer.
Move and Park SAS was devised in Paris in 2006 in order to create the Truckinform portal. The company draws on the considerable know-how and skills of its shareholders and experienced partners.
The Truckinform portal was created by C-oncept software GmbH in Vienna.
